Purchased 2 a few months ago and the staff loves them. Loud, easy to read, and use. Great product that is durable and has with stood the rigors of a very busy bakery. Even with all the equipment running you can still hear this timer. A little expensive until you consider that since we have started to use these timers we have had very few missed timers leading to over bake or burnt product.
Spend the extra money for this quality commercial grade timer and save yourself the aggravation. I just ordered 5 more today.
I was really happy with this timer until it started acting oddly after a year or so. I assumed it was time for a new battery. After replacing the battery it would beep VERY loudly at one second intervals incessantly. I followed customer service's suggestion on adjusting the battery contacts to fit the 9V battery but it did nothing to stop the beeping. Sadly it's now in the trash.
These timers are wonderful. We have several around the house. One sits by the coffeemaker, and whoever starts the coffee in the morning presses the button to start the count-up timer. So, no more asking "How old is the coffee?". Simply look at the count-up timer to know whether it's time to start the second pot. Another Big and Loud Timer sits by the stove/oven, and is used to time things we are cooking, and is loud enough to summon someone from several rooms away. And one sits on my desk in my home office so I can use it to time phone calls, either by the count-up or the count-down function. Furthermore, when I had a question, I called, and ThermoWorks gave unparalleled customer service!
The large display and buttons are excellent and very well designed. The timer is durable and has lasted for years in my kitchen.
There is one critical shortcoming: the timer's volume is VERY loud and even on the lowest setting it is far too loud for many households.
It should be a VERY simple design fix to reduce the lowest volume setting without changing the top-end volume....many household kitchens are not noisy and cooking is a peaceful and enjoyable experience. This timer elicits a near heart attack when you are cooking close by and it goes off.
Thermoworks... If you are reading these reviews remember that the household market is enormous! This small change makes the device much more pleasant to use at home without compromising whatsoever the professional performance.
What a great timer! Even at it's lowest volume, it's loud enough to hear rooms away! When I'm doing things upstairs I can hear the timer going off downstairs in the kitchen. We've also used it so the kids watching TV or playing their games know when it's time to stop and get ready for bed. No more saying they didn't hear me or the alarm! I also like the large easy read dial and the count up function. I would love if they could include a multiple timer function on future models. I would definitely purchase that! As an aside, I had to get a replacement as my first timer didn't work correctly from the beginning. The customer service was great and they sent a replacement immediately! I also got a MK4 Thermapen which is wonderful. I don't recall how many thermometers I've purchased and replaced. It's nice and sturdy and works like a charm. I would highly recommend the company and its products.
I really loved this timer and am having a hard time deciding to order another one. Mine is operational as for the timing. It's Beep has lost its desire to Beep like it did when new. I have used it about 2 years, and the last year it started giving up it' voice. I get a short quick Beep, stops, another short quick beep, stops. That is it. No nice long beep like when it was new. Battery is fine or the Digital timing would be way off. Timing is still correct, just can't leave the kitchen, when baking or cooking as now we miss the Beep. Not that inexpensive if you only get about 1 year out of this.
It sounds like something has gone wrong with your Extra Big & Loud Timer, which comes with a two-year warranty. We'd love to help you. If you'll email our Tech Support department at firstname.lastname@example.org, we'll be glad to assist you!

Why don't you have an on/off switch?
Nice timer, does everything I need. However, a screwdriver and 9V battery required every time I want use the thing is a little ridiculous. At the price point a simple on/off switch or even a series of buttons to prevent battery drain would be, I think, a feasible and necessary feature. Even more intelligent would be a battery save feature where the thing turned off after "x" amount of time of not being used.
We're sorry to hear that your Extra Big & Loud isn't working as expected. The battery typically lasts for 3,500 hours (or for about 1 year of ordinary use) and the fact that yours seems to be draining so quickly tells us that something is wrong. Our Tech Support team will get hold of you right away.

Excellent Timer, Well Designed
I bought this as a gift for my Mom, who is 87, and lives with me. She really likes the large display, & the large numbers on the keyboard. She likes to bake pies & cookies, and finds the timer easy to use, and loud enough to hear from anywhere in the house. This timer also makes a very good alarm clock. I'm happy I bought this product, it's well worth its price.
Large display, loud to soft alarm beeps. Easy to follow instructions are on a coated (3 X 4.5) inch card sheet. Easy to operate. Magnets seem strong enough to hold unit to my refrigerator without sliding or falling off. Unit has a wall mount feature as well. Pullout stand frame seems durable. Fast delivery of product with the flat rate shipping.
You will need either a small Phillips head screw driver, or a small Blade head screw driver, to access the battery compartment. There is no "OFF" function, unit is always "ON". The instructions state;" Battery life is not affected by this feature".
My only minor gripe is with the (9 volt) size battery. I would have preferred a size of battery( that would fit into a standard home use battery charger.
We had our first Big and Loud timer and loved it. It was loud, reliable and the magnet on the back made it easy to have access in the kitchen, but it died. We thought it needed a new battery, but that truly killed it and we followed the directions carefully. Would rate this excellent if it lasted beyond a the first battery.
One thing to consider when changing batteries is that battery can vary by mere millimeters, depending upon the manufacturer. If the new battery is smaller than the original one, you may need to bend the battery contacts to size to get it to work.
To do this, remove the battery and place a screwdriver between the contact and the compartment wall. Gently bend the contacts towards the + and – symbols. Reinsert the battery and close the Extra Big and Loud Timer’s case.

At last a timer that a hard of hearing person can hear no matter where in the house she is. Very happy with my new timer. Would recommend this for anyone but especially if you are hard of hearing.
We have timers, but we needed one that my husband could hear. I read the reviews on this particular product and decided to buy it based on other customers reviews. It has a volume control which is nice. My husband has it set on the second level and we can hear it upstairs without any problem! Nice big buttons and digital display, too.
On a whim a couple of years ago, my husband bought 5 Big and Loud Timers for me, our two daughters, our lake cabin and a beach place. How did I get along without one all these years!? I use mine all the time not only for cooking (obvious) but also for laundry timing which I tend to forget. My good friend bought one because of me and this last one I purchased as a wedding gift for a new bride. She says she uses it for watering the yard as well as in the kitchen. So versatile! Thanks
Best timer ever! I wear earplugs and slept through every other timer except for this one. Great for everything (I'm a napper and like to sleep for a half hour, not 3 hours which is what would happen if I didn't have this!) A little spendy but worth every penny. And the volume control makes it functional for everyone!
I like everything about this timer save one thing: The magnet on the back could be about twice as strong. It has a tendency to migrate down the side of our fridge. Other than that - perfect! LOUD AND BIG! Easy to see. Easy to use. Easy to hear from most anywhere in the house.
I love thermoworks and have several of their products but the Big and Loud Timer doesn't last. I am on my second one after the Alarm ceased working on the first. After a few months the Alarm on the second one quit and is now only a quiet chirp. Same problem as with the first. I bought it for the loud alarm and that is the first thing to go bad. While it lasts, however, it is great.

Great timer . . then NO SOUND!!
We use this timer in the kitchen a half dozen times a week and until yesterday it performed perfectly. Simple to use, big buttons, and LOUD. Yesterday when the time was up, there was no alarm sounding. The display showed the timer had been alarming for over 3 minutes and never a peep from the alarm. I tried a new battery and still no sound, but the buttons and display continue to work. Like other reviewers, I contacted tech support and was told to adjust the battery contacts, but that is not the problem. I was offered $5 off a replacement, but for a $30 timer that fails in a 3 1/2 years, that seems inadequate to me. I was super happy with this timer until I wasn't.
I had been shopping for a new timer, but couldn't find one that fit my needs until I saw this. I needed a beep loud enough that I could hear while outside or moving about in the house, yet not too loud when I'm next to it--I select one of the 4 volume settings based on my need at the time. I can attach it to my range hood or set it on the countertop. The numbers are plenty large, so I can see the remaining time from a distance, even without my glasses. It is large, durable, and simple to use. As I said, "Perfect!"
having considerable hearing impairment, I am unable to hear any of the appliance timers such as microwave and oven. went shopping for timers, tried two, couldn't hear them. then found plenty big and loud, ordered it and have found it to be plenty loud. now I don't have to worry about burning up or overcooking my dinner. thanks!
