The Infrared Comparator Cup provides a stable black body temperature. The comparator cup is an inexpensive way of checking infrared hand-held thermometers against a known reference thermometer.

The comparator consists of an aluminum cup with a solid matte black base, the base incorporates a 3.5mm reference thermometer hole for probe insertion.

The comparator can be used at any temperature within the ambient range of the instrument to be tested. The information from the reference thermometer can be used to compensate for minor differences in the readings against the test instrument. Then only instruments with unacceptable errors need to be returned to the supplier for re-calibration or certification.

One Minor Flaw

"I grew tired of guess work when it came to pan/griddle surface temperatures, so I decided I needed an IR gun. I already own several ThermoWorks temperature devices, so it was a no brainer of which brand I was going to purchase. I'm not a professional chef so I was looking for something simple and easy to use and this gun is perfect. The gun is simple enough to use and so far, has proved to be accurate. The one thing that I don't like about it and the reason for the 4-star rating is the lettering and words around the control buttons are difficult to read. They are raised and molded into the handle, which is nice, but since they are the same color, they blend in with the handle making them hard to see."
