"This scale is my main workhorse next to my 22lb cap Taylor TE22FT. What I love about the gravitas is it’s extremely precise measurements under 5g, which the TE22FT doesn’t register. This is critical for rubs and minor adjustment batch to batch. Overall functionality is impressive with the movable reader finding many homes in my kitchen and easily holding onto with strong magnetics. I do like the TE22FT tertiary plate under the main stainless plate which would be nice on the gravitas (avoid debris from getting into plate holes when cleaning the main plate) but honestly as a first gen product release it’s impact in my kitchen has been noticeable from the gate. Great new kitchen tool

"I bake a lot and my preferred way to measure ingredients is using a scale for accuracy. My older scale had huge difficulty measuring small amounts of grams, say 3 grams of yeast for a pizza dough. This scale solves that issue and more. I love that you can remove the wireless display so that you can place a large bowl on the scale and view the weight increments as you add ingredients. The scale is sturdy and feels high quality. I like the large display that you can read in a bright kitchen. I like that you can flip between metric and imperial measurements say if you have some odd amount of ingredient in a recipe. It's a somewhat spendy appliance but it's well worth the value in my kitchen."

"The quoted refresh rate of 1/2 of a second is not accurate. Sometimes it may be a 1/2 of a second, but often it’s as long as 2 seconds. "Excellent precision scale. Very easy to change measuring units, from whole grams to fractional grams. The 15 minute memory is a luxury and eliminates the worry about taking too long to complete gathering ingredients. The magnetic connection for the digital reader is smart and handy. I did cut a piece of stiff plastic to put under the scale so that I can slide the scale on the counter and not have to lift it to move. The straight back edge fits cleanly against the back of my counter so it is always in reach. And the color (yellow) is great."

Accurate and capable

"As a home cook, my needs are not the same as many professionals. However, I do appreciate the accuracy and capacity of the scale. The lag or delay is a little annoying, but acceptable and I appreciate the abilitIty to detach the display. However, I do mind that the scale does not provide settings for decimal pounds-- I often need tenths of a pound and giving me pounds and ounces requires me to stop and manually convert on a calculator. My relatively inexpensive (albeit much less accurate and capable) older scale does provide this."

"As a home baker and Content Creator of a baking website, I can say with certainty that this scale is an invaluable tool to have in the kitchen. Being able to measure and tare ingredients as you go allows for precision and consistency in my bakes, as well as saving me from cleaning extra measuring tools as I go. And the ability to move the measuring bar away from the scale is helpful when a large bowl would block the screen. My only issue is that the scale lags a second or two before measuring starts, but that’s easily overcome with careful attention. I would highly recommend every baker to get this scale!"

Q&A

Can the tare weight be customized to account for the the weight of an empty container without food/liquid/etc. before use or do you have to place your empty container first?
You have to place your empty bowl on Gravitas before taring.
The kitchen scale that I use now also has a timeout that turns off the display after 5 minutes of inactivity. When this happens, if I press the power button it will bring back the previous measurement (just like Gravitas). HOWEVER, there is a flaw in their design, in that if the weight on the scale changes in any way after the screen times out, then the scale will discard the current weight and reset itself to zero (auto-tare) when it's turned on again. I want to make sure this does NOT happen with the Gravitas. If the 5-minute screen timeout happens and weight is added or removed before pressing the power button to resume, does it show the correct weight based on the original tare amount before the timeout happened or does the tare reset?

IF YOU PUT A BOWL ON THE SCALE DOES THE SCALE ADJUST BACK TO ZERO SO THAT YOU GET AN ACCURATE WEGHT READING OF YOUR INGREDIENT?

The backlight automatically turns on when Gravitas is powered on and when any change in weight is detected on the scale. The backlight turns off after 15 seconds of inactivity. The display remains on for 5 minutes after inactivity. The backlight timing is not configurable.
Does the display have magnets to mount on a refrigerator for viewing?
Yes! The display has magnets on both the bottom and the back of the display.
