IRK-2 is a versatile infrared thermometer built for cooks who regularly work with high heat. Instantly measure surface temperatures — like cast iron, grill grates, pizza stones, and frying oil — without touching anything or getting dangerously close. Whether you’re preheating a pan, checking oven hot spots, or dialing in a bake, you’ll start cooking at the proper temperature instead of guessing.

IRK-2 gives you clearer information before food ever goes in the pan. The full-circle laser shows exactly what area you’re measuring, adjustable emissivity improves accuracy across different surfaces, and 12:1 optics let you easily take readings from afar. With one-second response times, programmable alarms, and the option to plug in a probe for internal temperatures, IRK-2 helps you manage heat deliberately — so results are more consistent from start to finish.

  • Start Cooking at the Right Temperature: Scan pans, grills, stones, and oil before food goes in across a wide –58 to 1022°F range to avoid sticking, steaming, or uneven browning.
  • Measure from a Safer Distance: 12:1 optics let you take accurate readings from farther away, keeping hands clear of high heat.
  • See Exactly What You’re Measuring: A full-circle laser shows the true measurement area, reducing guesswork on small or uneven surfaces.
  • Get Faster Answers Mid-Cook: One-second infrared response makes it easy to check hot spots, preheat levels, or surface recovery without slowing down.
  • Handle Different Surfaces More Accurately: Adjustable emissivity helps dial in readings across cast iron, steel, stone, and other materials.
  • Set Limits and Catch Heat Problems Early: High and low alarms alert you when temperatures drift too hot or too cool — useful for frying, baking, and grill setup.
  • Measure Internal Temps When You Need To: A Type K port lets you plug in a probe for internal temperatures, expanding IRK-2 beyond surface checks.
  • Read Clearly in Any Lighting: A bright, backlit display keeps numbers easy to read indoors, outdoors, or near hot equipment.

Reviews

Seems to work well

"I like the laser point feature. I feel ThermalWorks makes some quality stuff. There are a ton of these laser thermometers out there. In my opinion the cheapest is never the best value. ThermoWorks offers quality with a decent price, that is the best value."

Sean M. (5/5)

Great and reliable

"I bought this following a recommendation by America's Test Kitchen. I love using it to test temps for which I cannot use a probe. It is a great and reliable product."

Bernadette S. (5/5)

Where's the red circle on my skillet.

"The device appears to work. However, I had the impression that I'd see a red lit circle on my skillet. I do not see one. Why is that?"

Steven S. (5/5)

"I like that this thermometer measures am stress and not just a single point!"

Brian (5/5)

"Does exactly what I needed it to do."

Thrmoworks IR-iND Industrail Infrared. . .

"I am so happy with this measuring instrument. I used it to measures temperatures around windows, doors, and in disparate ares of the house. What I discovered was shocking -- and useful. This tool is now probably my favorite of anything. It will save me a lot in heating. I highly recommend it."

Mariah W. (5/5)

Not quite what I wanted

"I do living history and I thought I could adjust the range of the ""circle"" so I could check the baking area temperature of an 18th century bake oven. It appears to only go the the back or walls of the oven. It will be helpful, but not as helpful if I could center the ""circle"" in the middle of the oven."

Patricia B. (4/5)

No more guesswork

"This is great for ensuring that your pan is properly heated but not too hot. It's simple to use and gives a reading in seconds."

Elizabeth D. (5/5)

"Easy to use. Should have bought years ago."

Arthur J. (5/5)

Hand Held infrared thermometer

"Complicated and not intuitive."
