Talking Thermometer (RT8400)
In stock

The Digital Talking Thermometer is not a novelty! This digital pocket thermometer is a serious measurement tool that reads temperature with extreme speed and speaks the temperature readings at the touch of its single large button.

Other low-cost talking thermometers are made by companies that produce talking novelty items. They are cheaply made, very slow and not at all accurate. This digital thermometer was designed to our specifications and is produced in a thermometer factory where each unit receives proper quality control and testing.

ThermoWorks Super-Fast thermometer technology is employed in the reduced-tip probe for readings in only *5-6 seconds. Simply turn the thermometer on, insert the probe tip in a food portion or liquid, wait just a few seconds, then press the button to hear the temperature in a clear (female) voice. A recessed button on the back will change the scale from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Use the built-in eyelet at the top to hang the thermometer within easy reach where you normally use it. The thermometer body is contoured to comfortably fit the palm of your hand.

The Digital Talking Thermometer is suitable for the sight impaired with partial or full vision loss. For the sighted, the large 3/8" digits are easier-to-read. Even those that can see the display need not take their eyes off other tasks if they can simply push the 'Talk' button to tell them the temperature. Press it again and again to update the status of changing temperatures. The ThermoWorks Digital Talking Thermometer is a tremendous aid in food preparation, general household use or even scientific and industrial applications.

*Speed is measured as the time it takes to reach within 1 degree of the final temperature. Final tenths of a degree may continue to stabilize over the next 3-4 seconds.

Does the job pretty well, room for improvement

"Overall very happy, especially after a terrible experience with Amazon's ""top rated"" recommendation for Talking probe thermometers. There seems to be some latency in getting an accurate temperature reading, so it's not as instant as I thought it might be. Also disappointed to learn that the Talking model is not the highly recommended by America's Test Kitchen model. I was initially under the understanding that this top rated product also happened to be an accessible, Talking model, only to discover that if I wanted a talking model, it was a different product. I'm not a huge fan of The product design it feels a little cumbersome to use in terms of center of gravity and vulnerable to breakage. I was hoping for the more common, folding pen knife design that feels more balanced to use and folds into a pocket neatly."

Great item of visually impaired

"I bought this for a good friend who has VERY LIMITED sight and cannot read a regular thermometer when cooking to insure her food is properly cooked. She told me that it works great and has made a huge difference to her. . . . . not more under cooked or burned food ! Only negative is that it does not work well with thin pieces of meat as you can't get it in such items."

Would Not Recommend

"I have purchased a lot of timers and digital thermometers from Thermoworks over the years. And love them all. This thermometer is awful. DoesnÃât ÃâtalkÃâ right away. Takes ÃâwayÃâ too long to get to the temperature. Sorry I spent my money on this one."

Saves us from tying to read display

"We love it. No need to try and read display, whether the day is overcast or brilliant with sunlight or the food is at an awkward angle. The longer probe is much safer for us to use over a grill or oven rack."

Opened New Dimension in Cooking

"This talking thermometer was a gift for a blind friend. She loves it, specifically mentioning how accurate is appeared to be, how easy to clean, liked the slip-on cover, and how easy it was to use. If a sighted person thinks about living in a world of darkness without being ale to see what is cooking then you can understand how this talking thermometer has opened up a new dimension in cooking."

Great, but they do wear out

"I have had a total of four of these over the past five years. They are great and not that expensive. The temp face does go out and only parts are readable over time. The probe pulls out of the body if you are not careful and a little epoxy will glue it back in. The probe will bend if you are not careful. Would I purchase more of them. . . YES I would. Waterproof. . . . . NO. I dropped one in the sink and had it out in 3 seconds but the water killed it and it will not restore itself when dried out."
