"I don't need a lanyard - this is for a custom fix for the battery compartment cap with broken tabs. I think there should be a replacement cap available, since the tabs are pretty fragile, and it's a shame that an expensive, excellent thermometer like this becomes useless when a couple of little tabs break off. I got this to hold the cap in place and it seems to be working. I epoxied a small washer (one that fits into the magnet recess) centered onto a larger fender washer (about the size of the battery cap) and, with some difficulty, got the washers stuck to the magnet. I put the sleeve on so the washers hold the cap in place. This puts the sleeve on rotated opposite of its intended position, which creates a slight conflict with the probe closing completely in the ""off"" position (to turn the thermometer off). I'm trying just pressing it firmly down - if that doesn't work, I'll use a sharp utility knife blade to CAREFULLY cut a small notch in the sleeve to accommodate the probe. It needs to turn off, so it will turn back on when you want to use it again. I know this is an unorthodox fix, but a few bucks for the sleeve and some fiddling in my shop, which I enjoy, to save an expensive (and my wife's favorite) thermometer was an easy decision for me."
