Best simple thermometer
"Sometimes you just need a thermometer to do one thing. The Dot is perfect. I own 3-4 of them. They supplement my "Signals" when bbqing several pieces of meat. They monitor oil temps when I'm frying. They monitor oven temps when baking. One sits out in the sauna and monitors the temperature there. I buy them as gifts. Sometimes they sit on the kitchen counter and tell me the temp in the house. I buy more of them when they are on sale and give them as gifts or to just have another one...just in case."
Unsure
"I bought the DOT thinking that it would work in conjunction with the ThermoPen. I thought the DOT is used to monitor oven temp, as it says so on the box and it is rated for a max temp of 700 degrees. Elsewhere in the description from the website it does state it is to monitor food temperature. Since the DOT did not come with an oven probe I used the insertion probe in the oven chamber of my offset smoker. Should I have received an oven probe? I also purchased an RFX which I think makes my previous purchases obsolete. I wish I would have read the descriptions twice."
Spare
"I went to add in the app not realizing this wasn’t blue tooth like my other dot. My mistake not reading description. I utilize the blue tooth dot and love it. Price was right on this new one and will get used well."
Neat little thermometer
"Didn't know if I'd like it. But I can say that I love it! It gets used in my coffee & kava bar and it gets used daily for making creamers, syrups, teas, or anything that goes into a saucepan that needs attention to temps. Great little thermometer!"
Making pecan Plalines
"The DOT was perfect I drilled a hole in my wood spoon and hung the tip of the thermocouple into the sugar. At 240F we had praline syrup."
This device allows me to
"This device allows me to monitor my oven temperature, When used with the optional air probe. It’s been a great help."
Excellent
"The Cadillac of meat thermometers, masquerading as a Honda Accord. That's exactly my vibe, and I'm very pleased."
Excellent thermometer
"Great thermometer. Easy to use (I just need the temp, don't need the features that comes with the more expensive unit). Customer service was also excellent."
Exactly what I needed!
"I run a home inspection company in Texas and I needed a simple thermometer with an oven probe. This item is exactly what I needed. With the magnets on the back it sits right next to the temperature display on the oven so I know if the oven is calibrated correctly."
An always-reliable company with great
"An always-reliable company with great customer service and high-quality products. Would highly recommend to anyone."
Q&A
- can the thermometer sit in liquid and measure the temp?
- The metal probe tip can safely sit in liquid to measure temperature, but the main DOT® display unit cannot. The included standard Pro-Series® probe is moisture-resistant at the tip, though the transition where the wire enters the probe housing and the cable itself should not be completely submerged in water or liquids for extended periods. If you plan to submerge the probe deeply or continuously in liquids (such as brewing or sous vide), we recommend pairing DOT with our [Pro-Series Waterproof Needle Probe](https://www.thermoworks.com/products/tx-1002x-np), which is fully submersible.
- Can I insert probe in steak that’s on gas grill and pull down grill lid?
- Yes, you can safely close the lid on the probe. Take care to ensure that the probe wires do not get pinched and are not exposed to direct flame/flare ups which can exceed their temperature rating.
- How do I turn off my dot meat therm
- Hold the power button on the back until it turns off.
- Can this be used to measure oven temperatures? I would like to use to calibrate oven.
- Yes! You can purchase a Pro-Series air probe that can be used with DOT, or use the probe that comes with it. A great upgrade option would be Square DOT. It features two channels, and the second channel has a running average mode. It does the averaging for you, giving you a clear picture of the temperature of the oven as it's running.
- how long is the cable? I don't want the plastic housing to melt when I BBQ.
- The cables of the Pro-Series probes are 47 inches long (almost 4 feet). The housing can handle up to 122°F. Most importantly, don't stick it to the outside of the grill/BBQ and you should be safe from the housing melting.
