8682 ROCKS!!

"I've been using the 8682 for roughly 2 years now to check the pH of the water I use it to test the water i put on my plants after I've add additional nutrients into the water. I do NOT have an MS degree but I am retired and have found the instrument to not only be reliable but also accurate and easy to use. My biggest issue was trying to find batteries for the device, which ended up being impossible, so I had to come up with just as good replacement batteries - so far so good. I read the instructions (still have them) and follow them without any issues. Again, I don't have an MS degree and I have never worked in a lab - maybe I'm just lucky. Bobby M. Tulsa"

I was fooled by the portable nature of the device. Not helpful for most homeowners.

"I expected this to be something a homeowner could use for measuring soil, tap water, foods and beverages on an occasional basis. Wrong! First, the supplied instructions are terrible. They don't explain clearly about the sponge, the depth of insertion/sample size, the buffers and storage solution etc. Needs more than a tiny little leaflet to do that. Second, it requires the additional purchase of at least the storage solution and probably also two other buffer solutions as well. $71 plus shipping and that is not a one time purchase. Finally, it seems that you need to use or calibrate and hydrate it frequently. Otherwise it will die/ not work. For the last two reasons, I shouldn't have bought this, it was a waste of money. It's not easy-to-use like a temperature probe at all. I say this even though I have a MS degree and have years of experience in laboratories, including with pH meters. This is not friendly for home use unless you will use it frequently (i. e. for winemaking). I am retired and cannot set aside the time and space for this. I was fooled by the portable nature of the device."
