SCALE UP!!
"I smoke a lot. . of meat! This scale is epic. If you want measure ever bit of your cooking, smoking or cheffing from smash burgers, to pork belly, to that delicious crème fraiche, it handles it all. If you take your smoking serious and you don’t have one of these, can you even call yourself a true chef. . doubt it!! Go get a Gravitas scale now!!"
Totally worth the premium pricing
"Fit and finish are remarkable and far superior to all of the cheap crap out there. Looks great on the countertop and it's a substantial size too. The display is clear, oversized compared to what I had and yes. . . . BACKLIT, a major plus for me. Response-time is fine. Auto-off as well. The rubber buttons have a great tactile feel to them. The stainless steel plate is substantial and of course the removable display is crazy-useful for measuring larger items. Yes you can buy cheaper scales. But once you use this one, all others pale in comparison. NOTE: It took me a few minutes to realize that the detachable display and the base unit each has its own battery compartment. Once I loaded them both with batteries, we were good to go. (Batteries are included, a nice touch. )"
Great scale. Very easy to use and works great
"I love this scale. I use it daily. I no longer have to have another small scale to get to tenth of a gram accuracy. The detachable display is so useful, no more struggling to see what the reading is. Just stick the display to the wall in front of you or leave it on the counter away from the large bowl on the scale."
Nice addition to my cooking tools.
"This scale replaced my Taylor small scale. The Taylor served me well for over 20 years. I had to open both battery compartments to remove the insulating battery plastic strip. In total the scale uses 6 batteries. I was not expecting that. I enjoy cooking pizza and breads. The scale is impressive with the removable display in that I can use a large bowl when measuring the flour for the recipe. Less kitchen equipment I need to clean. I look forward to many years of constant use in the kitchen. I have quite a few ThermoWorks products. The customer service support is one of the big reasons I purchased this scale. I have used customer service a few times and have always received a response to the product question or the service issue. The scale came with a matching color trivet and a pack of jellybeans, both a nice touch."
Quite slow for the price
"I was really excited for this product as I’m a big fan of my Thermapens and have know for them to be quite responsive, and especially given the direction of the newest thermapen, I would have expected speed to be a priority. They say with engineering comes trade offs in display resolution, but I’ve tested this scale against my OXO (the most direct competitor), and two of my Acaia scales, and they all easily beat the Gravitas. I’m not sure if there’s something up with some folks batches, but to me this seems very substandard for what was marketed as an improvement over other offerings. The build quality seems nice and I like that the display is wireless, but did that choice come at the sacrifice of speed to measurement? Would love some clarity as to what the expected speed is"
"I very much appreciate where this scale is going, in what I expect will be future versions. Ergonomically, it needs more generous space on its edges for fingers to get under to lift it. It is heavy, which is good for the tool it is. It is slow to register weight changes, so pouring liquids can be particularly challenging. I haven’t personally qualified its accuracy, but given the pedigree here, I don’t doubt it. As a direct competitor to the Oxo, I like it a lot, but… this currently lacks, with speed being its only significant annoyance."
My go-to scale for recipe testing!
"As a recipe developer and food scientist, accuracy and precision are essential for creating recipes that home cooks can reliably replicate. The Gravitas scale measures in increments as small as a tenth of a gram, making it especially useful for weighing ingredients like salt, seasonings, and baking ingredients, where small differences can affect taste and texture. I’d normally need an expensive lab scale to get this level of precision, so I love that Gravitas delivers high-quality performance at an affordable price. It’s now a permanent tool in my test kitchen!"
It's Almost Magical
"I am a baker. I bake a lot of bread, both yeast and sourdough. I already owned a high quality scale from another brand, but was intrigued by some of the features of the Gravitas. I love that the display separates completely from the body of the scale without having a wire attached like my old scale. I also like that you can remove the platform to clean it. I had to keep the platform on my old scale covered in plastic wrap to keep it clean, which was a nuisance. But my FAVORITE thing about the Gravitas is that it measures to the tenth of a gram. PRECISE. I have daily medication that comes in a packet. My dose is a half a packet daily, 4. 5 grams. I used to have to guess how much a half a gram was. Not with the Gravitas!"
The Dream Scale
"What I value most about this scale is its accuracy to 0. 1 gram, and it's design. What is mosts unique, remarkable, and useful is its removable magnetic backlit display, allowing easy visibility by better positioing of it when putting mixing bowls, large pans, or trays on the scale. the one improvement I would like to have is for the turn off button to have less than 3 seconds."
"I love this scale. I replaced my old one with this. I liked my old one but this one is much nicer. Weight is accurate and the removable screen is so great."
Q&A
- Can the tare weight be customized to account for the the weight of an empty container without food/liquid/etc. before use or do you have to place your empty container first?
- You have to place your empty bowl on Gravitas before taring.
- The kitchen scale that I use now also has a timeout that turns off the display after 5 minutes of inactivity. When this happens, if I press the power button it will bring back the previous measurement (just like Gravitas). HOWEVER, there is a flaw in their design, in that if the weight on the scale changes in any way after the screen times out, then the scale will discard the current weight and reset itself to zero (auto-tare) when it's turned on again. I want to make sure this does NOT happen with the Gravitas. If the 5-minute screen timeout happens and weight is added or removed before pressing the power button to resume, does it show the correct weight based on the original tare amount before the timeout happened or does the tare reset?
- Yes, Gravitas will show the correct weight.
- IF YOU PUT A BOWL ON THE SCALE DOES THE SCALE ADJUST BACK TO ZERO SO THAT YOU GET AN ACCURATE WEGHT READING OF YOUR INGREDIENT?
- Yes. You simply press the TARE button to tare (zero out) the bowl's weight.
- What is the backlight behavior for the display and is it configurable? The demo video shows the backlight turning on when the display is removed from the base. What are the timouts? What actions turn the backlight on/off?
- The backlight automatically turns on when Gravitas is powered on and when any change in weight is detected on the scale. The backlight turns off after 15 seconds of inactivity. The display remains on for 5 minutes after inactivity. The backlight timing is not configurable.
- Does the display have magnets to mount on a refrigerator for viewing?
- Yes! The display has magnets on both the bottom and the back of the display.
