Good device, with one near-fatal flaw.
"The unit itself, with one glaring exception, is great. It allows me to monitor long cooks from anywhere. But. . . the battery compartment is a nightmare. There are coil springs on both ends of the battery, making it almost impossible to put a new battery in place. It's obvious that the designer never had to use the product. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd throw it out. And that's why it gets one start."
Certainty, Plain and Simple
"If you're reading this review you probably already appreciate the need to accurately measure temperature. While smoking meat occurs at low heat, the heat is hot enough to damage a sensor and its connector cable. This armored high-temperature sensor is perfect for smoking. My first batch of pork shoulders came out perfect, thanks to this sensor and my ThermaQ WiFi. The temperature graph plotted by ThermaQ WiFi was textbook! I love ThermoWorks products!!"
Good but not great
"I purchased this on the basis of my success with a Thermapen Mk4. It worked as advertised. The ThermaQ WiFi needs some work. Three issues:a) WiFi connections drops frequently during cooking. b) The tri-pod bracket/stand does not hold the temperature probe in place without considerable fiddling with the probe to hold it in place. Difficult when you working over a hot BBQ. c) The shut down of the unit is cumbersome and difficult to confirm. What works great is the temperature probes. They are fast and accurate as the manufacturer is known for. Bottom line. An expensive product that could perform better."
Works Great!
"Easy to keep an eye on what I'm smoking from anywhere. Connected right up - easy peasy! Remember - If you're lookin, you're not cookin!"
