Gravitas is the kitchen scale built for cooks who demand precision in their craft. Our first scale is built with the same dedication to accuracy and usability you expect from Thermapen®.

Measure to the tenth of a gram and the thousandth of an ounce with ±0.7 g accuracy—ideal for serious baking, coffee, portioning, sausage making, and precision cooking. Gravitas includes a NIST-traceable calibration certificate verifying its accuracy.

The completely wireless, removable, backlit display keeps readings visible at all times. Using an oversized bowl that blocks the display on ordinary kitchen scales? Pull the display away, set it to the side, or mount it with integrated magnets. The 180° auto-rotating screen flips the reading right side up from any angle.

Gravitas keeps the display on for 5 minutes after the last detected weight change, then enters standby and remembers your last reading for 15 more minutes. No more lost measurements.

Built rugged. Built precise. Built for cooks who measure what matters.

  • Measure with precision : measure to the tenth of a gram (0.1 g) and to a thousandth of an ounce (0.001 oz). Accurate to ±0.7 g or better. Includes a NIST-traceable calibration certificate.
  • The ultimate display: Oversized bowls or food-trap wires are a problem of the past. Gravitas features a fully wireless, removable display with large digits, backlight, integrated magnets, and a 180° auto-rotating display.
  • Tare Function: Add ingredients one after another without doing the math. Press tare between additions to reset the display to zero.
  • Recall your last reading instantly: When other scales timeout and forget your last measurement, Gravitas keeps it in memory. After 5 minutes of inactivity, Gravitas goes into standby mode for 15 minutes, remembering your last reading, then it shuts off. You unlock 20 minutes of memory, perfect for the busy kitchen.
  • Built for messy kitchens: Rated to IP66. Survives spills and cleaning in the harshest commercial workstations. The stainless steel measuring plate is easily removed for quick hand washing.
  • Industrial Battery Life: powers through all measuring with 350 hours of display life and 300 hours of base unit operation.
  • Measure up to 11 lb (5 kg): Handles the portions of a busy kitchen with ease.

*Local gravity at your specific location will impact all digital scales. Local gravity varies slightly by latitude and elevation across the globe. Minor display deviations (±1.0 g upon initial unboxing are a normal result of geographic displacement and do not indicate a mechanical defect.

We have calibrated Gravitas at target local gravity of 9.8010 m/s². To dial in your Gravitas performance, use a widely available M2 Class (or better) 1 kg reference weight to calibrate your Gravitas scale.

The kitchen scale market is missing a truly reliable, accurate kitchen scale. Customers have been asking us for years to build a scale that matches the accuracy, intuitive design, and rugged durability of the Thermapen. Gravitas is just that. A precision scale you can count on, measurement after measurement.

Use it once, side-by-side with a $50 scale, and you’ll understand. We are uncompromising in every detail. From the wireless communication between the display and the base to the bright automated backlight, the high-precision sensor, and the durable housing, Gravitas is built to perform with precision measurement after measurement. Year after year.

Much like the NIST-traceable calibration certificate for any of our thermometers. Except that instead of temperature data, it will be weight.

Gravitas includes a 2-year warranty against defects in either components or workmanship.

Yes. Gravitas measures grams and ounces. On the bottom of the base and the display, you’ll find the guide to 8 measurement modes. Ounces only, pounds and ounces, grams only, kilograms and grams, high resolution - ounce only, high resolution - pounds and ounces, high resolution - grams only, high resolution - kilograms and grams.

Reviews

Accurate But Poor Fit/Finish

"Scale is accurate for both baking measures and packaging of meat for the freezer. The misaligned stainless plate (see picture) drives me crazy every time I use it (which is several times per week). Better fit and finish would definitely get 5 stars from me."

— STEVE L. (3/5)

Incredible workhorse

"This scale is my main workhorse next to my 22lb cap Taylor TE22FT. What I love about the gravitas is it’s extremely precise measurements under 5g, which the TE22FT doesn’t register. This is critical for rubs and minor adjustment batch to batch. Overall functionality is impressive with the movable reader finding many homes in my kitchen and easily holding onto with strong magnetics. I do like the TE22FT tertiary plate under the main stainless plate which would be nice on the gravitas (avoid debris from getting into plate holes when cleaning the main plate) but honestly as a first gen product release it’s impact in my kitchen has been noticeable from the gate. gravitas is great.

"The Gravitas works fabulous. My wife started making sourdough and needed a precise scale. There was only one option to me and that is the Gravitas. Features that stand out are the removable control panel and the stainless plate that can be washed easily."

— Russ W. (5/5)

Great new kitchen tool

"I bake a lot and my preferred way to measure ingredients is using a scale for accuracy. My older scale had huge difficulty measuring small amounts of grams, say 3 grams of yeast for a pizza dough. This scale solves that issue and more. I love that you can remove the wireless display so that you can place a large bowl on the scale and view the weight increments as you add ingredients. The scale is sturdy and feels high quality. I like the large display that you can read in a bright kitchen. I like that you can flip between metric and imperial measurements say if you have some odd amount of ingredient in a recipe. It's a somewhat spendy appliance but it's well worth the value in my kitchen."

— David S. (5/5)

I have really mixed feelings

"I have really mixed feelings about this scale. I love the size of it and that I can move the screen for bigger items on the scale so I'll be able to see it. I also like the precision. But the software on the scale feels slow and clunky when in use. I was really surprised by this given how great the Thermopens and our thermometer by Thermoworks is. It's also not the easiest to clean."

— Emma P. (3/5)

Solves so many problems

"Perfect for all kitchen needs. Weighs the very small volumes, allows adjustment without resetting. As a sourdough baker it is perfect. I can divide my dough with the wireless display so I can see what I'm doing. My husband is a pit master who weighs meats with it. We also weigh our dogs' kibble and weigh our coffee beans every day. We like it so much we bought another one for our lake house."

— Yvonne S. (5/5)

It’s a good kitchen scale.

"It’s a good kitchen scale. The wireless screen was a big upgrade for me, since I frequently have the need to weight quantities that require a very large container. I also like the easily detachable plate for cleaning. It feels rather sturdy without being overly heavy. I wish it was slightly more accurate so that I didn’t need a separate scale for sub-gram measurements, and I wish the backlight stayed on longer or was configurable, but overall it’s been a big upgrade from my last scale."

— Matt B. (4/5)

1) I like the accuracy

"1) I like the accuracy and calibration of the unit 2) I like the size of the weighing table 3) The weighing table is not square with the base of the unit (shoddy craftmanship) 4) When using the scale, the LED readout suddenly flipped upside down. This was corrected by turning the unit off and back on"

— MARSHALL B. (2/5)

Slow read outs

"The quoted refresh rate of 1/2 of a second is not accurate. Sometimes it may be a 1/2 of a second, but often it’s as long as 2 seconds. I have tons of ThermoWorks products and was really looking forward to this scale for pizza and baking, but it is noticeably slower than much cheaper scales. Fingers crossed that those of us who bought early on brand loyalty can get a new unit or new brains for it."

— Joe L. (2/5)

Best Scale Ever

"I have used a micro scale and a large standard scale for years. I contemplated purchasing a large scale with a readout that pulled out on a cable but thought it would be cumbersome. The Gravitas is the best scale ever. I now only use one scale (the Gravitas). The platform is large enough I can even put a 12 muffin pan on the Gravitas, detach the readout display, and weigh out the batter for each one all equal in one pass. I no longer have to spoon some then go back spooning a little more and still getting uneven muffins or cupcakes. Faster process with consistent results!!! Very impressive!!!"

Q&A

How do you remove the stainless steel plate for cleaning?
The plate can be removed by applying gentle but firm pressure from the underside. When the plate is clean and dry, line it up and gently press it down until you hear it click.
How would this scale work for weighing coffee
Gravitas would be an excellent choice for weighing coffee with its removable wireless display and the ability to measure with accuracy of less than a gram.
Can the tare weight be customized to account for the the weight of an empty container without food/liquid/etc. before use or do you have to place your empty container first?
You have to place your empty bowl on Gravitas before taring.
The kitchen scale that I use now also has a timeout that turns off the display after 5 minutes of inactivity. When this happens, if I press the power button it will bring back the previous measurement (just like Gravitas). HOWEVER, there is a flaw in their design, in that if the weight on the scale changes in any way after the screen times out, then the scale will discard the current weight and reset itself to zero (auto-tare) when it's turned on again. I want to make sure this does NOT happen with the Gravitas. If the 5-minute screen timeout happens and weight is added or removed before pressing the power button to resume, does it show the correct weight based on the original tare amount before the timeout happened or does the tare reset?
Yes, Gravitas will show the correct weight.
IF YOU PUT A BOWL ON THE SCALE DOES THE SCALE ADJUST BACK TO ZERO SO THAT YOU GET AN ACCURATE WEGHT READING OF YOUR INGREDIENT?
Yes. You simply press the TARE button to tare (zero out) the bowl's weight.
