Reviews

Great design and engineering

"Just received and tested. The title says it all. 2.4MHz WiFi channel is an excellent idea to maximize transmission distance and penetration. My only negative comment is that the little Lifesaver candies don’t have any flavor. And they’re chewy. But it was a cute thought."

Really? You need to have

"Really? You need to have a 2.4GHz wifi to use this device? Is this the early 200s? Did you buy a container full of chipsets for cheap in 2005 and you are still running through the stock. It's ridiculous that I need a 2.4GHz network to use this device. I am sure there are many people out there who cannot or do not know how to set up a separate SSID for archaic devices. Other than that, I love the product. It works extraordinarily well, 2.4Ghz requirement aside."

RFX Wireless probe

"The ThermoWorks RFX Wireless Probe has officially earned a permanent spot in my BBQ workflow. This thing is stupid‑simple to use — turn it on, pair it, and boom, you’re cooking. No fighting with settings, no dropped signals, no “why is this thing not connecting” nonsense. What I like most is the accuracy. When I say accurate, I mean dead‑on, every single time. I trust it enough to walk away from a brisket for hours because I know the temps it’s feeding me are legit. The wireless range is solid, the interface is clean, and the probes respond fast. It just works — and that’s exactly what I want when I’m filming, cooking, or juggling ten things at once. If you’re serious about BBQ, or you just want a tool that doesn’t make you cuss at technology, the RFX Wireless Probe is the one."

Best service!

"I’ve had some difficulty getting all things correct with my RFX……. but…. since the customer service is awesome, I’ve been able to sue this unit excellently. I have a problem with the Meat and got it worked out and bought a second one too. Appreciate the quality of product and seervice from Thermoworks!"

— ROBERT T. (5/5)

Great, except....

"I thought these were great until I wrapped my brisket in foil. At that point they stop working. I wish I would have known prior to ordering them. I'm sure they are great for most everything else, but I do mostly brisket and prefer to use foil over paper. I can't recommend for anyone that likes to use foil for their brisket cook."

Meat could not be happier.

"Having 2 young kids and my wife getting me a smoker has proven to be a fun adventure. I put some meat in the smoker and then the girls need help with something which turns into needing something else and before you know it i have lost track of time and the meat is dry, or my steak which i like rare to medium is now well..... Now i set an alert when i am 5 degrees from my target and tell the wife ill be at the smoker, open a beer, and watch the other 5 degrees go by. Or the time the wife wanted cold smoked candy salmon.... set an alert when the smoker gets to close to 80 degrees and go cool it off a bit. I use this product for most things going into the smoker. it has been a time saver and a meat saver."

Great Wireless Temperature Measurements

"Quality equipment for precise measurements. Excellent communication with smart phone. Love the hard wire temp probe for ambient temp reading. Nicely done!✅"

Best Wireless Thermometer

"I spent some time reviewing different wireless thermometers when I bought one (Chef IQ Sense) last year and was not happy with it because it always lost connection. When reading reviews online it seems that's what a lot of these type of thermometers have in common. I was watching Mad Scientist Barbecue with Jeremy Yoder and he was using the RFX system. Clicked on his link and went to the website. I liked what I saw and decided to spend the extra money to get a 2 probe starter pack. I've used it once so far for grilling steak. Never lost connection once. The old one I had bought would've lost connection at least 3x. I love how the probes charge separately from the unit transmitting the temps. I'm looking forward to future cooks."

— Albert H. (5/5)

Works super well. Great battery life.

"First, I had problems syncing the system to my account due to old account issues. The customer service team fixed it immediately and it didn't slow me down at all. Amazing customer service. Second, the wireless performance is amazing. I tossed these in my Weber kettle and smoky mountain and the readings are rock solid. Battery lasts forever. Love the magnetic charging pods, makes storage super easy. The only thing I feel is missing is a wireless ambient probe. It's not a make or break thing since I'm usually smoking with Billows and need the wire there anyway. But it would be pretty nice to not have any wires going into my smoker. Anyway, 10/10 will buy again."

Housewarming/Holiday gift

"I have the single probe system, along with an instant-read Thermometer, and I love them! My son just moved into a new house and I suspect that this will be put to much use over the years."

Q&A

Does the RFX communicate through aluminum foil in a smoker? When I smoke pulled pork, the last stage is in a foil pan covered and sealed with foil and another cheap probe I purchased lost communication.
Aluminum foil can block wireless signals if the probe is completely sealed inside! RFX uses powerful sub-GHz radio frequencies to pierce through obstacles, but for the best results when wrapping pulled pork, make sure the end of the probe pokes slightly outside of the foil wrap. Leaving that end exposed inside the smoker chamber ensures your RFX Gateway maintains a rock-solid connection all the way through.
Can the RFX probe be used in an oven. I'm assuming yes, but all the photos show it only be used for barbecuing.
Yes, RFX can be used in the oven! Just make sure the RFX MEAT probe is inserted to the minimum immersion line.
Are the probes Bluetooth yet. I’m at competition with no internet. I need them to operate just in my work space
Yes, RFX GATEWAY can now communicate with your phone via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
In the picture there is the RFX wireless probe and an air temp probe. Does the package contain both? And how do they work together?
Yes, the RFX Starter kit includes both. In the app, you will see both the RFX MEAT temperature and the temperature from the ambient probe through the RFX GATEWAY.
Can the App be used on a laptop computer?
When on your laptop, you'll log into ThermoWorks Cloud, which is the same information you find on the app.
